Practicing high frequency words in isolation for a few minutes a day can help students to focus on the ‘elements’ of a word; the specific order of the letters in a word, the difference between two similar words e.g.come - came, and more. Word isolation also allows for more intense practice of individual words. Activities and games are a good way to do this. They can help students to learn to identify and spell individual words. Just remember to put the word back into a context for additional practice. This will enable students to transfer their learning into their reading and writing. |
