Sight Words

It is essential for readers and writers to develop a large number of sight words and phrases in order for them to immediately recognize high-frequency words.
Recognizing high-frequency words by sight frees students to concentrate on meaning as they read and write. It also helps them to learn other sight words and to improve reading fluency.

Marie Clay notes “a child has to accumulate a reading vocabulary of known words which he can recognize rapidly and does not have to work out.
