SMART RESOURCE | The Speaking and Listening resource enables the teacher to easily organise the oral language with the class. Through speaking with individual, partner or groups the student can explore ways in which to express feelings and emotions while also developing a vocabulary to describe and answer questions about a chosen topic. The Newstime resource includes students Learning Intentions and Success Criteria, a Todays Class Management Board together with a variety of Newstime focus cards. The resource is presented with a colour background and a white background. New to the resource is a student Self-Reflection Assessment sheet to assess their presentation against the Learning Intentions and Success Criteria; also include is a blank Self-Assessment sheet.

INTERACTING WITH OTHERS
Teacher Tip:
Self-Assessment: I have included a blank column for an assessment score, however, I have left it up to the teacher to devise an appropriate score system for the class. In the past, I have used smiley faces- (happy, okay, sad) and (X, /, dot) indicating always, sometimes, not yet. After introducing the Newstime Management to the class, appoint students to organise the daily Oral Language board for the class. There are several ways in which this can be done. The news focus card is placed on the board and the students ready to share their news add there name card to the board. I usually have a set of name cards near the board and the students stick their name card on the board if they are prepared for news. Or students are on a roster or selected at random for presenting their News.
